So, you’ve made your activity check. Excellent! Now, what to do with all those pesky threads and posts you’ve done...surely they can’t go to waste. Hence, the Silent Trade is a necessity.

The Silent Trade works as follows: take your request, write down your name, your request, and who you are sending your trade to. OoCly, this involves filling the form out below; all trades must first be approved on a case-by-case basis by the Munificent Overseers before characters obtain them in-game.

ICly, there is a small shrine in front of the mess hall of the Hapless Captain’s ship. It is a votive stand of lit candles, their colors as varied as the Neathbow, with new, unlit candles in old drawers of pine. To make a request, your character must light a new candle, place it on a votive, and burn the paper they wrote the request on in the newly-born flames. There’s no need to speak, or to ask if your request will be fulfilled. Your request is in the air; those you wish to contact will become aware of it soon enough.

The current primary means of accumulating points each months are as follows:

  • 1 point for every 10 comments in the main community.
  • 1 point for every 15 comments in an in-game post in the (*ahem*) romantic community.
  • 1 point for every 20 comments in any Test Drive Meme.
  • 1 point for every 20 comments in a character’s in-character mailbox.
  • 1 point for every post by your character in the in-character community.
  • 20 points for selling your character’s soul to a devil (one-time only!).

Other ways of gaining points may be added to this list, and there may be a chance for more bonus points revealed during any given month’s Activity Check.

For calculating each monthly amount of bonus points, we have set up a table for you to put in either a post or a comment thread in your journal. Just copy and paste from below and edit as needed for your point links:

As for what can be bought by your points through the Silent Trade, here are the point brackets, and what they can currently buy for your characters:

  • BRACKET 0 - 5 points: A few days' worth of...specialized victuals. This is for those who do not or cannot otherwise eat regular foodstuffs, hematophagous or anthropophagous individuals who desire discretion, or need a specific type of item to remain properly invigorated (example: Grief Seeds for Soul Gems).
  • BRACKET 1 - 10 points: one small-sized (~hand-sized), non-powered item from home (example: jewelry, a cup of food from home); one small physical alteration (example: change of hair color, eye color); a firkin of prisoner's honey.
  • BRACKET 2 - 20 points: One medium-sized, non-powered item (example: one set of normal clothing) from home; restore one power to one small-sized item; one medium physical alteration (example: several inches change of height, grow cat ears); 5 firkins of prisoner's honey; restore one weak power or ability/restore a strong power, albeit severely weakened (example: a simple fireball); key to a fourth-class lodging; a small random boon from the faction being exhorted.
  • BRACKET 3 - 40 points: Restore one power to one medium-sized item; restore one moderately weak power or ability/upgrade or restore a strong power already restored, albeit weakened (example: a stronger fireball that can burn wood in half the time of normal fire); key to a third-class lodging; a small random boon from the faction being exhorted (example: asking for some seed money, better food on the ship for a week, a bottle or two of decent wine).
  • BRACKET 4 - 80 points: One large-sized, non-powered item from home or otherwise (example: a car, a statue); gain a completely new weak power (example: you can now toss a lightning bolt to shock an enemy on top of shooting fireballs); restore a moderately strong power or ability/upgrade or restore a strong power already restored, albeit to a moderately powerful state (example: you can set fires across the street with your mind); key to a second-class lodging; a moderate random boon from the faction being exhorted (example: a cryptic clue about potential goings on, a business license to operate somewhere, gaining a random small item from home).
  • BRACKET 5 - 120 points: One small-medium building from home or otherwise appears in the Neath for your character; a lifeboat created in your honor for the Hapless Captain's ship; gain a completely new moderate power (example: you can now create a small thundercloud, on top of shooting fireballs); one significant, non-magical, physical alteration with an advantage (example: you not only gain a foot in height, but you also become twice as strong); one strong power from home (example: you can set fires a block away with your mind); key to a first-class lodging; 10 firkins of prisoner's honey; a major random boon from the faction being exhorted (example: one-time access to an important faction member); official enrollment/alignment in the faction exhorted (NOTE: this will have IC consequences with certain NPCs and plots!).
  • BRACKET 6 - 250 points: One large building from home or otherwise appears in the Neath for your character; one strong power completely restored (determined on a case-by-case basis); gain a completely new strong power (determined on a case-by-case basis); key to an ultimate lodging; 20 firkins of prisoner's honey; important plot information related to the faction exhorted is revealed (example: a secret which can unlock new plot options. NOTE: this will have IC consequences with certain NPCs and plots!).
  • BRACKET 7 - 500 points: One inescapably gigantic item or building from home or otherwise (example: you really, really, really wanted that Gundam, didn't you? Well, you can't bring it inside! Also, determined on a case-by-case basis); access to a personal island, bearing your character's name in the Neath; 50 firkins of prisoner's honey; pay off your character's debt completely and become the zee-captain of a zee ship or zubmarine, independent from the Hapless Captain.
  • THE BRACKET BEYOND - 1,000 points: do not do this. you will not find a good end. for the love of god, do not choose this option.
Point values and obtainable categories are subject to change at the Overseers’ discretion.

Currently, characters may trade points to the following entities:

  • The Echo Bazaar: The true rulers of Fallen London. They are cloaked in black and given code names; their eyes glow at you as they wait expectantly.
  • The New Sequence: BEHOLD THE SUN. The only true light in the Neath. Their ambassador looks at you beneath black lenses, confident you understand.
  • The Brass Embassy: The devils in charge of Hell. They are charming, their smiles toothy, and they assure you that your business is appreciated.
  • The Communists: Anarchy was so 1890s. The Surface War has changed the way things are - maybe you’ll see things their way, as well.
  • Salt: One of the gods of the Zee. The chiming of a bell echoes in your mind; the impossible scent of pine wafts from the East.
  • Stone: One of the gods of the Zee. Memories of home fill your mind; you find yourself yearning for a light beyond your reach.
  • Storm: One of the gods of the Zee. A red fog descends over your eyes; you can imagine the rain and snow beating and wetting your face.
  • The Gracious Widow: Her British accent is impeccable, as are her manners. Pity she always keeps her face in shadow.
  • The Independent Duchess: Clearly noble, though details as to how are vague. She's a mainstay at court. The cats love her, and you had better love them, too.
Your characters may make a Silent Trade with any of the above, but beware: doing so will have tangible IC consequences, both for the entities and your characters. Things gained through the point system may also exhibit unusual effects that were not the intention of the gain; given that this is the Neath, no one should be surprised if a mishap occurs or a request completely backfires, as a result of such a transaction.

On top of that, the more your characters trade with one, the more willing, and even eager, they may find themselves wishing to be influenced by them, in mind and body...and if they still have one, perhaps even their soul as well.

Please make sure to copy and paste the below for each transaction your character wishes to do:
